Bumblebee Rumble by Linda Richards
Featured in Issue #107

Although, many websites still show this pattern for sale, it has come to our attention that it is out of print. If you cannot find a Meg pattern, we suggest using the Libby by Children’s Corner. This pattern is only found at www.smockingbonnet.com under Children's Corner-out of print. They currently carry this pattern in stock in sizes 1-4 even though Children's Corner does not print it anymore. A Petter Pan collar would have to be added and the front bodice prepared for a smocked insert (see bottom of this page).

If you are making a size larger than a 4, then you can combine two patterns for the top bodice and the gathered pants. For the sleeveless bodice and Peter Pan collar, use the current Children's Corner Louise for the top (adapt for smocking plate, as instructed below), or the Children's Corner Bab's pattern for an open back bodice (no collar). Also, Wendy Schoen has an open back bodice pattern called Penny (from Martha Pullen Company) with a round neck (no collar, but one could be added). Penny would have to be adapted for a smocking plate (see instructions below). For the gathered pants, use the Knickers and Jumpsuit pattern from Cherry Williams from www.handmades.com. Simply gather the top of the Cherry Williams pants to the bottom of the selected bodice and you will have the Meg (at least the front of it anyway). Be sure to measure the child's crotch from the front bodice to the back bodice and be sure that your pants have the right amount of crotch space.

Adapt a plain bodice into a smocked insert bodice with no pattern drafting: Simply stitch fabric blocks to each side of smocked insert. Next stitch a fabric block of yoke or fashion fabric to the top edge of the smocked insert with piping in the seam. Then place the whole bodice pattern over the joined fabric and smocked insert and align the piped seam where you want it and cut out. No pattern drafting necessary.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
